Hopes are dwindling to find as many as 1,000 people believed to be buried under debris and rubble in a local community of Palu City in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi Province, after the area was devastated by multiple earthquakes and an ensuing tsunami last Friday.

Military officers on the ground revealed that there could be up to 1,000 buried in Balaroa, a government housing complex in Palu, with only a fraction of the victims having been recovered.

Survivors in Balaroa described how the ground shifted from under them, moving the town's mosque several meters away and raising the road by up to five meters.
